Marathon Training Update: 8/21-8/27

Good Morning! I hope you all had a great weekend! I definitely did!

Aaron’s first day of classes are today (he’s a professor!). It’s his first academic year teaching at this University and I’m so excited for him! I know it will be a lot of work, but he’s a hard worker and can do anything he sets his mind to. 🙂

I also have 2 interviews for new jobs this week, so wish me luck! I’m hoping one of them works out, but if not I’m prepared to continue the search. I’ve honestly been enjoying the extra time to blog and connect with other bloggers.

Anyway, I thought I’d take Monday’s to share and update you all on my marathon training.  I will be talking about the week prior to the current week that I’m writing. Plus this will be another way for me to have somewhat of a training log to look back.

Marathon Training Update: Lakefront 2017

(P.S. if you just started reading the Lakefront Marathon is what I am training for 🙂 ).

Monday 8/21

5 miles (easy) – felt good!

Tuesday 8/22 

Hill Repeats (1.5 mile warm up, 2 miles of hill repeats, 1.5 mile cool down) – 5 miles total -felt good!

Wednesday 8/23 

5 miles (easy) – felt good!

Also did some biking

Thursday 8/24 

5 miles (tempo-ish run) – felt good!

We also went to see my brother run his first cross country meet of the season on Thursday.  He did well for his first race!

Friday 8/25

5 miles (moderate) – felt good!

Saturday 8/26

Rest day

Sunday 8/27

11 mile long run – was pretty rough until about mile 8. My breathing was terrible and felt pretty anxious the whole time. Aaron rode his bike next to me, which helped. You have have some good runs and bad runs.

Weekly Mileage Total – 36 miles

Overall pretty good amount of mileage for a down week. Have a couple more weeks of hard training until it’s time to taper.

My overall attitude towards running this week

I was pretty positive about weekly mileage this week and for some reason stuck with the 5 mile runs.  5 is a good complete number for me lol.  I was negative toward my long run this week and definitely procrastinated on it. But, at least I got the mileage in and ran a little further than I originally had planned.

So there you have it! My running from last week. Wasn’t the best, but wasn’t the worst.  The temperatures have been a little cooler lately, which makes it easier on my running.  I really dislike running in the heat, but I do know there are some benefits to summer training when it’s hot. I went out A LOT more this summer in the heat than I ever have before and honestly disliked the majority of the disgustingly sweaty hot runs.  But, at least I did it and got somewhat used to the heat. 🙂 Makes these cooler days way more enjoyable!

  1. Beast mode <3. Good luck on those interviews this week–that's the best when you can be light about it–so great to enjoy time off when it's given to you as well. I am sure the right thing will come at the right time. Have a great week!
